Béres Tokaji Magita Cuvée

Béres Tokaji Magita Cuvée

An extremely rich, unique sweet wine. The scent and flavour recall raisins, dried figs and dates, dried apricots, and honey. A genuine Tokaji dessert wine, but vibrant and lively due to its sharp acidity. Recommended as a dessert or to accompany other sweet treats.

Made from late-harvest, shrivelled grapes picked at the end of October, the wine is a blend of four Tokaj grape varieties (Hárslevelű, Furmint, Sárgamuskotály, and Kövérszőlő). The grapes were partially whole-cluster pressed, partially de-stemmed. After 24 hours of settling, we conducted directed fermentation, followed by short wooden barrel aging before blending the base wines. The aim was to create a harmonious dessert wine that, alongside its botrytis character, also includes the fruity character of late-harvest, shrivelled grapes.

The winter was much milder and drier than average. The spring season brought the rain expected. The temperature was appropriate for the season, but turned extremely hot by the end of May. The temperature during the summer months was as we expected; this was only occasionally interrupted by torrential storms, which caused serious erosion damage. The harvest began on 4 September. The weather during the harvest was extremely favourable; therefore, in addition to the excellent base wines for champagne, exceptionally beautiful Aszú wines were also produced this year.

The wine is named after the beautiful Magita of the local Erdőbénye legend.
